What pixel aspect ratio should I use for a flash animation for being on television?

From what I gather 1280 X 720 / 16:9 is the last size used. But before you start an animation of 2 months longer want to make sure that my cartoon series is the best definition to see in modern television. I am a student with Adobe Flash and want to go into an animation in a digital art contest. If someone could help me solve this dilemma I'd really appreciate it! Thanks
